NANTUCKET INTERIOR DESIGN IDEAS

Nantucket interior design, should consist of natural materials and a relatively neutral airy color palette. Nantucket is an island off of the coast of Massachusetts with a deep history in whaling. When designing a space it’s very important to know the location that you are in, in order to portray this in your work.

BRING NANTUCKET’S HISTORY TO YOUR SPACE

With Nantucket’s rich whaling history, there should be a tribute to that in every space that is designed to have a Nantucketers feel. This could be through the navy grey color palette when choosing accents, or a very unique wood carved whale for a striking piece on the wall, or even a super cute pastel whale wallpaper for a kids room or play space. Nantucket is surrounded with such deep history not only in whaling, but also in their downtown. The architecture is pristine using beautiful white oil paint as well as brick structures, and this should be carried into your Nantucket designed space. It is now understood how time consuming it is to paint with oil paint, but a great alternative for a similar look would be a high gloss paint. Also, when designing your cozy living room with a large fireplace don’t try to cover all your brick. Having exposed brick can bring natural texture and history. If you are designing a home in Nantucket, and need to create a work space having a dark moody color can set the perfect tone. This can be designed in a masculine or feminine feel through the design details, but by painting the ceiling and walls the same moody color it can actually make the room flow better and at times feel bigger. This cohesive look, can be accomplished in a blue grey tone, to incorporate a whale like color palette.

NANTUCKET’S OVERALL COLOR PALETTE

With Nantucket’s coastal location, light neutral colors should always be used in the common space of the home. From beautiful whites, to sand tone tans, the beach atmosphere can be brought to your room. When designing a kitchen of a Nantucket style home, you can never go wrong with white cabinets, navy island, and marble countertops. This truly brings the beach into your home through the color palette of the blue of the sea, the white of the foam, and marble which is a beautiful natural stone. Also, incorporating wood that is stained a natural drift color can make exquisite accent walls or even side tables and centerpieces. The natural wood tones also apply into your flooring choice. Having a driftwood or sandstone floor keeps a simple clean palette allowing a coastal feel and room for creativity in other aspects of the room. When picking your fabric on the sofas or accent chairs, keeping your main seating piece simple can allow for a striking accent. For example, two light grey sofas, with a large wingback accent chair in the corner that has a custom pattern. This chair can show your personality without taking over the room.
